Advanced
In the Advanced tab, you can configure the RTSP & RTP Setting, Codec Optimization and Multi-Stream Setting.
RTSP & RTP Setting
To configure how Surveillance Station connects to the camera:
- Select one of the following from the Transport protocol drop-down list:
- Auto: Surveillance Station will automatically try to establish the RTSP connection by using the protocols in the following order: UDP → TCP → HTTP. If the camera is disconnected, Surveillance Station will use the last protocol to resume the connection.
- UDP: UDP provides lower latency and higher transfer rate. However, this protocol may deliver lower video quality through lack of network bandwidth for not having a retransmission mechanism.
- TCP: TCP provides higher video quality. However, the retransmission mechanism of this protocol may consume more network bandwidth, and delivers higher latency through lack of network bandwidth.
- HTTP: HTTP is an extension of TCP. By using this protocol, video streaming over the Internet can avoid firewall restrictions.
- Click Save to save the changes.
To configure Surveillance Station's Keep-Alive method for RTSP/RTP connection:
- Select one of the following from the Keep-Alive method drop-down list:
- Off: Surveillance Station will not transmit any RTSP commands to notify the camera to keep the streaming alive.
- OPTIONS: Surveillance Station will transmit RTSP's OPTIONS commands periodically to notify the camera to keep the streaming alive.
- GET_PARAMETER: Surveillance Station will transmit RTSP's GET_PARAMETER commands periodically to notify the camera to keep the streaming alive.
- Click Save to save the changes.
Note:
- Different camera models may use different methods by default. The default Keep-Alive method of your camera will show "(Default)" behind the option.
- You can try to configure this setting when your RTSP/RTP connection is abnormal. Changing Keep-Alive method may affect streaming stability.
Codec Optimization
An active codec optimization can help to save your bandwidth effectively.
Note:
- This section appears only when codec optimization is supported by your camera's streaming in H.264 or H.265 format.
To customize codec optimization:
- Tick Customize codec optimization checkbox.
- According to your camera brand, select one of the following options in the drop-down list:
- AXIS:
- disable: Streaming in original H.264 format. No extra bandwidth will be saved.
- zipstream-low: Streaming in H.264 with Zipstream-low compression. This option can realize a low level of bandwidth saving.
- zipstream-medium: Streaming in H.264 with Zipstream-medium compression. This option can realize a medium level of bandwidth saving.
- zipstream-high: Streaming in H.264 with Zipstream-high compression. This option can realize a high level of bandwidth saving.
- zipstream-extreme: Streaming in H.264 with Zipstream-extreme compression. This option can realize an extreme level of bandwidth saving.
- VIVOTEK:
- off: Streaming in original H.264 or H.265 format. No extra bandwidth will be saved.
- on: Streaming in H.264 or H.265 with Smart Stream II compression. This option can realize a bandwidth saving.
- ZAVIO:
- off: Streaming in original format. No extra bandwidth will be saved.
- better: Streaming in H.264 or H.265 with Smart Codec better compression. This option can realize a medium level of bandwidth saving.
- best: Streaming in H.264 or H.265 with Smart Codec best compression. This option can realize a high level of bandwidth saving.
- Click Save to save the changes.
To customize keyframe interval:
- Tick the Customize keyframe interval checkbox.
- Specify the number of in-between frames between two keyframes.
- Click Save to apply the changes.
Note:
- Some camera models may use second instead of frame as the unit of keyframe interval.
To enable dynamic keyframe interval:
- Tick Enable dynamic keyframe interval checkbox. This option will automatically optimize the keyframe interval to reduce bitrate for smoother streaming.
- Click Save to save the changes.
To enable dynamic fps:
- Tick the Enable dynamic fps checkbox. This option will automatically optimize the fps for smoother streaming.
- Click Save to save the changes.
